This is the church of Inmaculada Concepción in the Reitocan community of Saracarán. Like some of the other communities of our parish, this one has two names: Saracarán and Cafetales. Why communities have more than two names I don’t have a clue.
I first encountered this church in January of 2019 in my seventh month of living in Honduras. The church was packed to overflowing, and the people were celebrating St. Sebastián, the patron saint of Reitoca.
A statue of St. Sebastián makes the rounds of each of the parish’s churches of the municipality of Reitoca around St. Sebastian’s feast day (January 20), and one can always expect plenty of firecrackers before, during, and after the Mass.
