On this Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we encounter a very important message from the Book of Isaiah.  We read:

Thus says the Lord: “For just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to him who sows and bread to him who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55: 10-11).

This message is just as important for us today as it was for the people thousands of years ago.  Knowledge, if it does not translate into action, is useless.  In Christian vocabulary, “faith, without works, is dead.”

God doesn’t care if you can tell others what chapter, verse, and Book of the Bible you can find Christ’s commandments to welcome the stranger or feed the hungry.  What God does care about is how you put these into action, or how you assist others put these commandments into action.
